| Prof. Gerard Presencer was born in London in 1972. At the age of 11 he became a member of the National Youth Jazz Orchestra. At the age of 15 he made his recording debut with the alto Peter King. Gerard Presencer has performed with many famous jazz musicians - Stan Tracey, John Dankworth, Cleo Laine, Red Rodney, Johnny Griffin, Phil Woods, Jason Rebello and Courtney Pine. In the past eight years he played in the Charlie Watts Quintet, with whom he recorded four albums and whom he accompanied on their world tour. Their fifth CD was completed in spring, 1999. He has also worked with James Browne, Sting, Brand New Heavies, Ray Charles, Kula Shaker, Tina Turner and the Pet Shop Boys. Furthermore he performed as a soloist in U.S.3s Cantaloop, which is published by Blue Note Records. Currently he works with his band Platypus. In 1995 and 1997 Gerard Presencer was voted best trumpeter at the BT Jazz Awards. Gerard Presencer has taught at the Royal Academy of Music, the Guildhall School, Trinity School of Music, Surrey University and Thames Valley University, where he developed a three-year graduate course. In the summer semester of 1999, Gerard Presencer was appointed Professor of Trumpet in the Jazz and Popular Music department at the the Academy of Music "Hanns Eisler" Berlin. |

Prof. Ludwig Nuss

Born in 1961, he studied with Jiggs Whigham in Cologne, passing his final concert examination in jazz trombone with distinction. He began working as a freelance musician in the Cologne studio scene, making numerous recordings for radio, TV and the commercial market.
1988-1991 trombonist in the musical "Starlight Express" in Bochum
1991-1992 one year contract as 2nd trombone in the WDR Big Band Cologne
1992-1996 trombonist and soloist in the SDR Big Band in Stuttgart
since September 1996 WDR Big Band in Cologne
Alongside his work as lead trombone and jazz soloist in the WDR Big Band in Cologne, Ludwig Nuss can be heard in many areas of the German and European jazz scene.
As Sideman he took part in numerous recordings with international artists (Bob Brookmeyer, Bill Holman, Patti Austin, Frank Foster, Rob McConnell, Lalo Shifrin, Phil Woods, Slide Hampton, Vince Mendoza, Brecker Brothers, Peter Erskine, Manny Albam, Bob Mintzer, etc.) and national jazz musicians (Paul Kuhn, Peter Herbolzheimer, German Jazzorchester, Thilo Berg Big Band, Bill Ramsey, Diether Reith, Peter Fessler, All That Jazz, etc.).
Under his own name he has released the CDs "Hornplayers can´t eat Garlic", "Return of the Hornplayers", "Jazzed Friends" , "Ups & Downs" and ”Rolling Down 7th“ (in Brooklyn NYC, 2006)
Ludwig Nuss started teaching in the JIB as professor for trombone and ensemble in winter semester 07/08. |
